What do employers look for in new employees? Soft Skills. Soft skills are non-technical skills that relate to how you work. According to business leaders, while the three "R's" (reading, writing, and arithmetic) are still fundamental to every employee's ability to do the job, employers view "soft" skills as even more important to work readiness. These skills include: having the ability to manage your time effectively, being able to compromise and resolve conflicts, and your overall work ethic. Soft skills can affect how you interact with colleagues, solve problems, and manage your work and are important for your success. While many of these skills can develop over time as you gain job experience, some companies offer training programs to help employees strengthen their soft skills.
