From Prison to Freedom: How Brian Scott Built OurJourney to Help People Reenter Society
Brian Scott served 20 years in prison and was released in February of 2021, after which he founded OurJourney one year later. OurJourney is a new approach to freedom where being released from prison isn’t just an occasion to anticipate but a ‘journey to join’. OurJourney believes that communities are safer, stronger and more connected when people returning from prison don’t go back. Therefore the organization exists to help people during their reentry journey as well as raise awareness concerning the challenges that people face.
How does OurJourney do this you might ask? Their secret sauce is the lived experiences of the staff and many of its board members. Everything that this nonprofit does, whether it is developing their own programs and tools or coming up with common sense ways to remove reentry barriers, is based on the intimate knowledge of knowing what it feels like to be incarcerated and having to go back.
Hopefully after tuning into this episode you will understand for yourself that OurJourney has several programs and tools designed to help people returning from prison during their first ninety days!
